Yellow Cake with Double Fudge Frosting
From scratch, yellow birthday cake recipe with fudge frosting!
Ingredients
FOR THE CAKE:
3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs plus 1 egg yolk
1 1/4 cup whole milk
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cup cake flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp kosher salt
FOR THE FROSTING:
1 cup milk chocolate morsels
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup dark chocolate unsweetened cocoa powder
pinch of kosher salt
3 cup powdered sugar
3 Tbsp whole milk
Sprinkles, optional
Instructions
1.For the Cake, beat butter for 2 minutes. Add sugar and vanilla, continue beating with electric mixer. Add eggs and extra egg yolk, beating well after each addition. Combine the flours, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Add to mixing bowl, alternating with the whole milk. Beat 3 minutes after all is added.
2.Pour cake batter into two greased and floured 9inch cake pans. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 25-30 minutes. Remove and cool completely.
